Same Melody, New Mood: The Art of Harmony for Pianists

What happens when you keep the melody but change the harmony? In this applied theory class, you’ll learn how different chord choices shape the mood, color, and character, and how jazz pianists reimagine a familiar tune into something fresh and personal.

Through engaging demonstrations and hands-on experimentation, you’ll learn the core concepts behind jazz harmony and try out ideas on our provided keyboards. Whether you play classical, jazz, or are simply curious about how music is built, this class offers an inviting, creative space to explore how harmony works.

No background in jazz is required—just curiosity and a willingness to play!

Prerequisites: For pianists of all levels, ages 15 to adult. No prior jazz experience is needed.
