Have you ever walked down a familiar street and suddenly felt like you were seeing it for the first time? Maybe it was a vibrant mural on a brick wall or the unexpected sound of a melody floating through the air.
Art shouldn’t just live inside concert halls and galleries. It belongs in our parks, our squares, and our daily commutes. As we prepare for the launch of Pianos on the Town this May, we’re diving into why public art and music are more than just “nice to have”—they are essential for a thriving community.
A sidewalk is a space to walk; a sidewalk with a hand-painted piano is a place to stay. Public art acts as a “smile generator.” It breaks the social script of our busy lives and gives us a reason to pause. When we stop to listen to a neighbor play a quick jazz riff or admire a local artist’s work, we aren’t just passersby anymore — we’re a community sharing a moment.
You don’t need a degree in music theory to feel the joy of a public piano. Whether it’s a toddler hitting their first middle C or a seasoned professional practicing a concerto, music levels the playing field. Pianos on the Town invites everyone — regardless of age or skill level—to contribute to the soundtrack of Concord.
Why does our work at CCM matter? Because a community that values the arts is a community that thrives economically and socially. By partnering with local artists to design these pianos, we’re showcasing the incredible talent right here in our backyard. Our donors make it possible for us to bring these high-impact projects to life, ensuring that Concord remains a beacon for creativity in the MetroWest area.
