Immerse yourself in rich traditions and sweet string band sounds with Concord Conservatory’s Old Time String Band Ensemble.

Over four weeks, this course offers a unique opportunity to connect with fellow local musicians, expand your repertoire of old-time tunes, and cultivate your musical skills in a welcoming, supportive environment. Rooted in aural tradition, our ensemble emphasizes learning music by ear, while providing essential physical materials such as chord charts and lyric sheets to support your journey. Tune breakdowns and play-alongs will be conveniently accessible via Google Drive.

Bluegrass vs. Old-Time: What’s the Difference?

All vocalists and acoustic instrumentalists can join the ensemble.

Prerequisites:

  • Suitable for all skill levels beyond absolute beginner
  • Comfortable with playing melody and/or rhythm on a few old-time or similar tunes
  • Experience learning by ear is a plus
  • Age Group(s): Adult, Lifelong Learners
  • Ages: Adults
