Let’s Pick: Intro to Bluegrass Jamming

Intro to Bluegrass Jamming is a 10-week course open to all acoustic musicians – voice, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass, dobro, harmonica.

The course is geared towards beginner and intermediate players who wish to deepen their skills as bluegrass musicians, become more comfortable jamming with others, and engage with the growing local roots music community.

We will focus on fundamental elements of bluegrass jamming including collaboration, ear training, keeping time, non-verbal communication and jam etiquette. Our primary goal is to provide students with the skills, experience, and confidence needed to participate in bluegrass jams.

The class meets immediately before the weekly Concord Conservatory Open Bluegrass Jam (Thursdays at 7:30 pm), students are encouraged to stick around and participate!

Let’s Pick is a three part series – Intro to Bluegrass Jamming, Bluegrass Solo Workshop, and Bluegrass Harmony Singing.

Pre-requisites: Students should be familiar with basic major scales and a handful of open chords under their fingers – G/C/D/A/F.

Students will need a notebook, and are encouraged to bring recording device – the one on your phone works great! Guitar, banjo and dobro players will need a capo.
