Let's Pick: Bluegrass Solo Workshop

The Bluegrass Solo Workshop is a 10-week course exploring a variety of soloing techniques to take your lead playing to the next level! This class offers a creative and relaxed space to experiment with new ideas, while simultaneously honing your bluegrass jamming skills. We will examine soloing on a technical level, and also on a personal level, learning how to listen to ourselves and integrate our unique musical voice into the bluegrass tradition. Open to all acoustic instrumentalists – fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass, dobro, harmonica.

Pre-requisites:

  • comfortable playing open chords, moving between chords, and strumming basic rhythms
  • can play common major scales (G/C/A/D)
  • some familiarity bluegrass jamming, know a handful of songs or fiddle tunes

Participants need a notebook and recording device – your phone works great! Guitar and banjo players need a capo.

The class meets immediately before the weekly Concord Open Bluegrass Jam (Thursdays at 7:30 pm), students are encouraged to stick around and participate!

Let’s Pick is a three part series running throughout the 2023/24 school year. Courses include: Intro to Bluegrass Jamming, Bluegrass Solo Workshop, and Bluegrass Vocal Workshop.
