Let's Pick: Bluegrass Vocal Workshop

“The only thing better than singing is more singing”

-Ella Fitzgerald

Bluegrass Vocal Workshop is a 10-week course dedicated to deepening our understanding of bluegrass vocals, growing our repertoire, and most importantly singing with other folks in a fun and supportive environment. Through a combination of songs and technical exercises we will grow our understanding of the nuances that make bluegrass singing so unique, and learn how to recreate those sounds with our own voices. This course is also an opportunity to sing in the aesthetically and acoustically beautiful sanctuary of the West Concord Union Church! Open to all vocalists. Acoustic instrumentalists are encouraged to bring their instrument.

Pre-requisites:

  • some experience singing is helpful, but not required
  • (if playing an instrument) be comfortable in an intermediate bluegrass jam session

Participants need a notebook and recording device – your phone works great! Guitar and banjo players need a capo.

The class meets immediately before the weekly Concord Open Bluegrass Jam (Thursdays at 7:30 pm), students are encouraged to stick around and participate!

Let’s Pick is a three part series running throughout the 2023/24 school year. Courses include: Intro to Bluegrass Jamming, Bluegrass Solo Workshop, and Bluegrass Vocal Workshop.
