This is a performance-based class, where each student will play a different percussion instrument provided during class. Instruments include hand percussion, drums, shakers, mallets (vibraphone) and other sounds. Students will switch instruments for different pieces. Studying prepared as well as improvised pieces, this class is guaranteed to be fun while being an invaluable learning experience.

Curriculum:

  • Performing different rhythms on percussion instruments within an ensemble.
  • Repertoire including grooves of different music genres ranging from traditional and contemporary styles, such as pop, world music, and classical-contemporary music.
  • Study of percussion ensemble scores.
  • Creativity development and skills for rhythmic improvisation within an ensemble.

*Prerequisite: have already taken some music lessons (on any instruments/voice) and have minimal knowledge of musical notes/rhythm (such as whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eight notes).

Level: Intermediate.
