Is your child learning an instrument and you’d like them to learn more mindfully and more efficiently?
The Musician’s Toolbox offers four-week sessions in Music Theory on varying topics appropriate for the student’s level. All students, novices and serious musicians alike, can benefit from and enjoy music theory.
Here at CCM, music theory is considered an integral part of the study of music. Our theory workshops teach students fundamentals that will enhance their private instrumental/voice lessons, teach them how to be better listeners of music, and to understand and appreciate the music in their lives. Workshops are available to all experience levels beginning with our Discovery classes to our Advanced classes. Students’ learning and study of their instruments/voice will accelerate and flourish.
Students who are just starting out will develop basic skills in identifying notes, rhythms, and meter to support their reading in private lessons. As students advance, they will develop a working knowledge of key signatures, scales, intervals, chords, symbols and terminology, both on the page and by ear, enhancing their appreciation for they music they study and play.
To determine which Music Theory workshops are appropriate for your student, please have them complete this written Theory Assessment and return it to the main office. Your student will then receive recommendations for which workshops to take.
The four-week Music Theory workshops are included in CCM’s private lesson tuition for youth students.
Please do not register for a session until your student has handed in their Theory Assessment and you have received confirmation of their placement recommendations.
*We ask that parents allow their children to complete the Theory Assessment on their own without assistance. This makes it possible to place the child in the appropriate Music Theory workshops that best suit their abilities and experience. Students who are starting music lessons for the first time do not need to complete the assessment, and will automatically be placed in our Discovery level classes.
