Leah Kosch remains grateful and expresses her love of music and the piano: “After many years living as a musician and teacher in the Boston area, I consider myself lucky that I am still able to enjoy the relationship that’s been so special to me throughout my life: that between me and the piano.” She takes pride in witnessing this connection blossom in her students and enjoys sharing it with audiences through her performances.
For Leah, the piano is a versatile instrument with many functions, but most importantly, it serves as a fundamental tool for musical education. Her primary goal is to provide students with a solid foundation in essential musical concepts such as note-reading, phrasing, rhythm, and basic theory. Leah’s aim is for her students to eventually apply this knowledge independently, a skill vital not only for piano playing but for mastering any instrument.
As an active music educator and pianist, Leah Kosch maintains a busy career in the Boston area. A dedicated chamber musician and collaborator, she has performed at numerous venues, including the Medford Condon Shell, the Golden Hour Concert series in the South End, the Cambridge River Festival, the Longwood concert series, the Plymouth Library concert series, and the Cape Cod Art Museum. She has also appeared in faculty concerts at Boston College, Rivers Conservatory, and the Brookline Music School, and has performed at NEC and Boston Conservatory, where she holds staff pianist positions.
As a freelance artist, Leah has collaborated with various Boston-based ensembles and orchestras. She has performed with Opera on Tap in their “Opera and Flowers” summer series, the Mercury Symphony, the Melrose Symphony, and participated in Opera Bites with the Boston Opera Collaborative at Pickman Hall.
A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Leah has premiered numerous new works as a former core member of the Boston New Music Initiative. She has also performed at the PARMA Festival, New England Conservatory’s SICPP, Rivers Contemporary Seminar, and has recorded new works with the Acting Singers Project.
In addition to her performance career, Leah has taught at Boston College, the Brookline Music School, and serves as music director at Payson Park Church in Belmont, MA.
Leah received a Bachelor of Music from Ohio State University and a Masters of Music from the Longy School of Music. When she is not teaching or performing, Leah enjoys cooking, hiking in the White Mountains, and catching up on her reading.
