Joseph Cracolici is a cellist from Western Massachusetts who has dedicated his life to sharing the power of music as both a performer and an educator. He believes in the cello’s ability to create a “reverberant, soulful, and stoic” sound, and he uses this voice to create memorable musical experiences for as many people as he can.
A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, where he was the John E. Brooks Music Scholar, Joseph went on to complete his graduate studies at the Longy School of Music of Bard College as a Presidential Scholar. He has collaborated with renowned artists like Adam Golka and Katherine Winterstein and has been a featured performer at events like the Presidential Inauguration of Holy Cross President Vincent Rogeau.
He is an active member of the Massachusetts orchestral scene, performing with ensembles such as the New England Repertory Orchestra and the Boston Civic Symphony. Joseph has also performed internationally at the Trentino Music Festival in Italy and on multiple occasions with the Iberacademy Orchestra in Medellín, Colombia, where he also gave private lessons to young musicians. He performed with the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic under David Alan Miller in a NAXOS recording of American Classics, featuring performing works by George Gershwin, Steven Stucky, and Joan Tower.
In addition to his work at CCM, Joseph is the Program Manager of the Worcester Chamber Music Society’s community music program, Neighborhood Strings, and teaches private lessons at the Pakachoag Music School.
His teaching philosophy is built on four core pillars: curiosity, which he believes is the spark that gets students started on their journey; open-mindedness, which allows them to find their unique method of work; diligence, which is the combination of focus and consistency; and finally, selflessness, as he believes music is an art form made for and with others.
What excites him most about teaching at CCM is working with the staff, faculty, parents, and students to create lifelong learning and invaluable memories through music. He loves the “energy and commitment to music” he’s seen at the conservatory and looks forward to being surrounded by people who share this passion.
Outside of music, he enjoys following the NBA and MLB, watching movies like Lord of the Rings and WALL-E, and improving his cooking skills.
