Songwriting: Fundamentals

Did you ever try and write a song and write your own lyrics?

Did you ever wonder how songs are created, tricks of the trade, how you use harmony?

Immerse yourself in a songwriting experience and learn the basic tools of how to use harmony, melody, and lyric writing ideas. Share your songs, get productive feedback, and work towards recording your song to be shared with friends and family. In this class, you’ll learn from an Independent Music Award Winner, two-time USA Songwriting finalist, and Just Plain Folk Songwriting Finalist about writing and arranging songs.

Good knowledge of chords and experience on a chordal instrument (piano, guitar, banjo, uke, etc.) is helpful, but not required. It doesn’t have to be your first instrument but you should have played for a while.

You should have a computer with GarageBand or Logic or equivalent, optimally a microphone, and of course a sense of exploration!
