Are you ready to dive headfirst into the wide world of mandolin? Mandolin 1 is a group class designed to give you the essential skills to start playing the mandolin and begin making music with other people.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of rhythm, melody, and harmony through popular mandolin repertoire. We’ll cover fundamental concepts – picking techniques, strumming patterns, left-hand exercises, ear training, the Nashville Number System – while learning motivating and creative ways to practice these concepts and apply them to our playing.

You’ll also learn:

  • How to hold the mandolin and pick in a way that eliminates unnecessary tension
  • To play essential mandolin grooves
  • To read and write a lead sheet
  • An understanding of I, IV, V chords in common keys
