Ian GoldsteinMandolin & Guitar

Ian Goldstein is an ethnomusicologist, teacher, and musician based in Cambridge, MA. He holds a PhD in Music (‘17) from the University of California, Berkeley and an MA in Music (‘10) from Tufts University. A multi-instrumentalist performer on mandolin, acoustic & electric guitar, lap slide, and oud, as well as a vocalist, Ian is equally at home playing in American-roots-rock and indie folk bands, backing New England singer-songwriters, or working as a collaborator in more eclectic global-music settings.

He has played with noted New England-based musicians Ryan Fitzsimmons, Beth Cohen, Malcolm Barsamian, and Melissa Ferrick, among many others. Guided by the belief that music making should be a joyful, fulfilling experience, as an instructor Ian focuses on instilling confidence and a self-compassionate approach to musical learning. In addition to teaching at CCM and privately at his home studio, Ian is Applied Music Faculty at Tufts University.
