Concert and Lecture Series January 29th, 31st: Symbolism in Music

Concert and Lecture Series

Ever feel like you’re on the wrong side of an inside joke? Music is full of symbolism, and much of this can be lost on the listener if one is unfamiliar with the musical language. Composers represent love, loss, God, hell, and countless other emotions with sound alone. We will explore some of the most frequently used musical symbols and provide tools for a deeper understanding of classical literature. Music by the composers Schubert, Messiean, Verdi, and Debussy will be performed.
