Swedish composer and guitarist Björn Wennås wants “to get my students excited about the guitar and about music in general. I aim to have them discover the beauty of the sound, the range of tone and expression the instrument is capable of, while also focusing on technique and reading. The guitar is tremendously versatile, but also challenging and requires both practice and often employing multiple approaches before a student begins to gain true familiarity with the instrument.”

He keeps students engaged by making sure they are “aware of great music and artists by playing their music or sharing recordings with them. I also love to have a conversation about music, concerts, history as well as pick my students brains regarding artists they listen to.”

Björn is an active musician in Boston and its surroundings. He currently co-leads BC Quintet featuring his original compositions drawing inspiration from both rock and jazz tradition as well as from contemporary music and Newpoli, a Southern Italian Folk Ensemble. He is also a busy classical guitarist, performing both solo as well as in duo and trio format.

Björn received a BA from Uppsala University, a Diploma from Berklee College of Music, and an MM with distinction from Longy School of Music. He was nominated in 2004 for the Just Plain Folk’s Award for best jazz vocal composition and in 2005 he was a finalist in the International Massimo Urbani Award in 2005, a jazz soloist competition that takes place in Camerino, Italy.

When he’s not teaching or performing, Björn enjoys hiking and poking around in his family’s vegetable garden.
