Rachel Sumner

It is with great disappointment that we share the news that we have had to cancel our Rachel Sumner concert and masterclass scheduled.

Masterclass 5:00 pm

Concert 7:00 pm (Kat Wallace on fiddle will join Rachel for the concert)

Join Rachel on March 12th for a masterclass that explores the ties between traditional and modern folk songs, and how we as writers can look to those old songs and find something new and original within them. She’ll pull examples from her own tunes, break down her writing process, and touch on works by her favorite modern songwriters (like, but not limited to: Gillian Welch, Josh Ritter, Anais Mitchell, Joanna Newsom). There will be an allotted time for Q&A.

Rachel spent her early career on the bluegrass circuit, singing and writing with the acclaimed Boston group Twisted Pine. These days, she belongs somewhere else, though. Rachel’s solo work has a new clarity and conviction. Intricate yet forthright, these are songs we can believe in. Her crown jewel is “Radium Girls (Curie Eleison),” which won the grand prize at the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She’s working on a full-length debut album of originals – filled with learning and suffering, justice, heartbreak, and craving too much of the world.

You can hear Rachel on stage around New England with an instrument in her hands, nectar and venom in her throat. She’s been hitting the road with a band she affectionately calls Traveling Light, a tight-knit, powerhouse string band.

CCM’s Covid policy requires you to show us proof of vaccination for anyone 5-years-old and over, and we ask you to please wear a mask in the building at all times. Thank you!
