How Do You Listen To Music?

CCM Concert & Lecture Series

Welcome to the 2016-2017 season of the Concord Conservatory of Music Concert & Lecture Series—three concerts and lectures curated by CCM faculty member Keith Kirchoff. Each concert will be preceded by a brief lecture on the evening’s program, given by Mr. Kirchoff. The concerts will feature performances by talented conservatory faculty and guests. We hope you will join us for this in-depth concert series!

COUNTERPOINT

Friday, March 10, 7:00 pm

Even without text or images, music often tells a vibrant story.  Sometimes music emphasizes a particular feeling or mood expressed in the story; other times it expresses a distinct narrative.  Join Keith Kirchoff and CCM piano faculty member, Yelena Beriyeva as they explore musical storytelling.  With pieces drawing from both humor and tragedy, we will recall classic cartoons, extract musical meaning from abstract art, retell the story of the earth's beginning, and explore how music influences themes of life and mortality.

Music will be performed by the composers Liszt, Copland, Satie, and Bolcom.
